GREG WHITMORE - Piano and Voice Instructor
Greg’s love for playing the piano and singing began at a very early age among the backdrop of the rural Wisconsin countryside. Here he performed in church, local talent shows, and school musicals. For more than 30 years, he has passionately shared his expertise as a private piano and voice instructor, nurturing students to unlock their musical potential.
In parallel, Greg’s impact extends across 20 years in independent schools in Los Angeles, New York City, and Dallas, where he has dedicated himself to guiding children and adolescents in their musical pursuits. His approach prioritizes skills, while fostering a positive and engaging learning environment. He holds the basic belief that active engagement with music instruction has the power to change lives!
His education includes a Master’s Degree in Piano Performance from Southern Methodist University and a Bachelor of Arts degree with concentrations in piano and voice from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Post-graduate work includes masterclass performances at the Franz Schubert Institute in Austria, masterclasses at Ardingly International Music School in England, and performing in musicals and operas at the Seagle Music Colony in upstate New York. Greg completed training in Kodaly Level I through the University of North Texas, and ORFF Levels I and II through Cal State Los Angeles.
Greg studied voice extensively with Met Opera Baritone Brian Schexnayder and New York City Opera Coach Martha Gerhart, and has sung with professional choruses such as The Dallas Bach Society and the Fort Worth Opera. He studied piano with Dr. Carol Leone at SMU, and with Penelope Cecchini at UW-Eau Claire. Greg's theatrical experience includes performing in various productions such as Into the Woods, Once Upon a Mattress, The Secret Garden, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, Guys and Dolls, and Candide.
Greg is dedicated to offering his students a comprehensive music education that helps them excel in piano and voice. His ultimate goal is not only to nurture their musical abilities but also to support their personal growth, equipping them with valuable skills that extend well beyond the realm of music.
